Soft pastels are unique as a color medium in that they do not have a "binder" to hold them to a surface. Premium Pastel papers with coated surfaces are specifically designed to help hold pastel. The heavier or coarser the texture is of the surface, the greater the ability to hold multiple layers of pastel.

We use the Komtrak 'KOOOLBIND' three ring system that allows easy insertion and removal of papers. The ring system also allows the covers to be folded all the way around providing a sturdy working support. Dakota Pastel KooolBinders are available in two sizes, both bound on the 11" dimension. Glassine sheets (10) provide a protective layer covering the delicate pastel surface. Wallis has 5 sheets each of Pro and Belgian Grey, LaCarte has 2 sheets each of 5 different colors and Richeson has 4 white and 1 each of 6 different colors. DAKOTA PASTEL PORTFOLIOS WITH GLASSINE INSERTS SAFE PASTEL STORAGE AND TRANSPORT! The Dakota Pastel Portfolio is another product from Dakota developed specifically for our pastel customers. The Pastel Portfolios are designed to transport and store your pastel works in progress or when completed. The portfolios are classic black hard cover with a scuff and water resistant surface. There is an inside protective flap and three tie closure ribbons. The inserts have a 100% cotton Coventry Rag backing with 8 sheets of glassine for inserting delicate pastel work. The insert is stapled and tape bound on two sides for ease in inserting the pastel painting and securely holding it in place. *Dimensions shown are for the interior capacity of pastel pockets. *Outside dimensions of the portfolios are approximately 1 1/2" greater in each direction.
