The Conté pencil is a fairly hard pastel pencil line with a larger 'lead' that is fairly fragile. This quality allows for very fine rich pigmented precision marks or line on a variety of surfaces. They require care in sharpening the oversize barrel using either a knife or the oversize opening in a sharpener.
