A LOGICAL COLOR APPROACH TO A PASTEL RANGE
Size: 1/2" X 7/16" X 1 3/16"
ORGANIZED BY HUE, VALUE AND INTENSITY
Blue Earth Pastels (made in Blue Earth, Minnesota since 2012) are sold exclusively at Dakota Art. Rectangular in shape and a compact size, these pastels meet the color needs of the pastel artist in a new way. Colors in Blue Earth Pastels are organized in the traditional nineteenth century manner: by hue, value and intensity. This sensible color wheel arrangement makes finding the right color with the correct value quick and easy. Blue Earth has developed this thoughtful chromatic palette for the pastel painter, reminiscent of the oil painters' palette. This logical organization allows a relatively small set to present the fullest expression of color, and eliminates the need to take on the arduous process of developing and organizing one's own pastel collection into this useful arrangement. The pastels are made using high-density mineral pigments with a proven historical record for permanence. The soft and dense consistency allows rich coverage while maintaining a smooth and creamy texture. All sticks have a number embossed for easy identification. Each of the twelve 28 piece sets features one hue and all of its respective values and intensities. Both the warm and cool sides of the primary colors are represented, along with secondary colors and warm and cool neutrals.
MIXED SETS: 6 & 12 PIECE SAMPLERS: An easy way for artists to experience the unique feel and handling qualities of the Blue Earth pastels. PORTRAIT AND LANDSCAPE SAMPLERS: The 21-stick samplers feature a seven-tone structure that is common to all the Blue Earth colors. With seven tones it is possible to paint anything you see, even with a limited range of color. As long as the values are correct, the painting will be convincing. It is the tonal structure that carries the image!
COLOR RANGES: The Blue Earth Pastel line consists of ten color range sets of 28 pastels: Primary hues have a warm and cool box: Red and Quinacridone; Yellow and Lemon; Blue and Cerulean. Secondary hues: Orange, Green, Turquoise and Violet (*the Violet set is split between 14 Cool & 14 Warm Violets). Two additional sets of Nearly Neutral Cool and Nearly Neutral Warm complete the palette of 336 colors. ORGANIZATION: Each Color Range box is organized from dark (1) to light (7) on the value scale. The color boxes are further divided by intensity: Line A is the brightest; Line B is medium intensity (graying line A with a complement); Line C is less saturated (more graying) and Line D is the least saturated, neutralized and grayed (least intense). Finding the right color is simplified with this method of organization. Complementary color harmonies are easy to create. UNIQUE PACKAGING: Each color range is packaged in a unique format that allows pastels to be inserted vertically in foam cradled boxes that measure 4"x6 1/4"x2". The die-cut foam is in two sections, allowing removal and easy access to the pastel sticks.
