Following many years of experimenting, J. Luda Colors created its handmade soft pastels based on the 16th century techniques, while using modern, synthetic pigments (NO cadmiums or heavy metals) and focusing on the use of environmentally friendly compounds. Each stick is handmade based on a strict multi-step process, which makes the production very time-consuming. Compounds are blended by a mixer until a perfectly homogeneous consistency is reached. The sticks are shaped into a block and left to dry in a controlled environment for 14 days.

It is only possible to achieve this quality and fineness by working manually. Due to the softness, and the minimal amount of binders, your colors have a guaranteed consistency and uniform distribution throughout the stick.

Vibrant & Lightfast Colors: Pigments used have a lightfast rating between 7 and 8. All modern pigments are used, NO cadmiums or other heavy metals.

Distinctive Sharp Edges: Pastels are rectangular with a crisp, defined edges. This form allows for fine lines and detailing, clean edge work and controlled shaping and blending.

Extensive Palette: Explore a spectrum of meticulously crafted colors organized in a unique system of 35 base colors, each with a possible variation of 22 tints and shades.

Artisan Craftsmanship: Every stick undergoes a rigorous multi-step handmade process, including a 14-day drying period, ensuring consistency and quality.

Size: Each pastel measures a generous 5/8” x 5/8” x 1 9/16”, with color number embossed into the stick.

Packaging: Pastels are securely protected during shipping with hand-folded boxes and custom-cut sponge inserts, all made from recycled and recyclable materials.
