Light weight and allows for packing a good number of colors of different types of pastels. Even room to sneak in a brush on the side. Have filled it up and taken to the hills to paint. Wonderful.

I just started using my new 90 pastel Neef box today. I love how light it is to carry over the original wooden boxes. Only complaints are related to a design element. It would be great if the foam bottoms were a bit sturdier when using each section separately. Also, a few larger slots for larger pastels. Otherwise, I think it’s a worthwhile investment; especially for travel purposes.

Nice light and compact pastel box with foam cutouts for 60 pastels in two layers. They will be safe and secure in this box.

I’ve been trying to find a great way to transport pastels comfortably and safely. This box is lightweight, has three (!) layers is secure foam to keep the pastels from shifting, and holds more sticks than my wooden boxed that seemed just the ‘thing’ three years ago. Definitely great to take into the field.

The box is exactly what I needed to carry my pastels for traveling.

I got the box holding up to 90 standard pastels which holds 3 layers of pastels. Love the compact box size. Since I am using the jumbo oversized and very lovely Mount Vision pastels I ended up getting 2 boxes for about 90 pastels. The Mount Visions will fit but since they are so thick and generously sized, only 2 rows will fit in the larger NEEF box and allow the lid to close. So I got a second box. Smaller sized pastels will not have this problem. Still the compact size and lighter weight compared to the heavier wooden boxes is perfect for my storage needs. Highly recommend!

Just as advertised. Fits all my pastels, including long Senneliers, chunky Unisons, round Rembrandts, and square Jaxells.

I love these containers for storing my pastels. I organize by color or small pallets in layers. They are so easy to pull out and tuck back in, especially when space is limited such as mine.

This hold most sticks except the longest Love the weight, it I do know the if the glued foam will degrade over time - it will just transform into storage for other stuff. So super flexible too.

Excellent container in order to consolidate many odd boxes of pastels. I have a separate 90 piece box for Unisons, Terry Ludwig’s and Jack Richason pastels. The foam is very heavy duty.

I took my Heilman with me traveling, but I found it to be too heavy. I went looking for something lighter. My primary requirement was that it needed to protect my precious pastels. I ordered the NEEF 90 pastel box, with a set of Jack Richeson, Richichi 80 pastels, and some Terry Ludwig pastels in lights and darks. I was able to place two Richeson pastels in most compartments/slots. I filled the box with the set of 80 Richesons, a light and dark Terry Ludwig of each hue, and several Nu Pastels in each hue. The NEEF box had a second foam pad under the three layers. I am using it on the very top to protect the top tray of pastels. It weighs a little over three lbs., fully loaded. The way the trays are supported are with one layer of foam with cutouts glued to a second layer of solid foam underneath. This bottom layer provides stability when removing the tray, and protects the pastels during transport.

I bought this as a travel box for Girault, Terry Ludwig and Schminke pastels. The foam will accommodate all those sizes and is sturdy and light.

This is what is needed for all those prior pastel purchases for multiple storage to safe staff. Issue is using this in the field, plein air. The top foam pad is accessible, but the others below have no support, aka stiffness and the pastels can pop out and fall on the ground when the lower platform of pastels is taken out. Perhaps cutting and matching, fitting, a stiff sheet of cardboard to the underside of the foam shelf would support them when in the field. Wrap and secure the foam pad full of pastels to the under panel of cardboard. Great concept. This can be improved for plein air use.

Very pleased with this pastel box. I was looking for something that would protect my pastels but was also light weight and would easily slip into my art bag.

I’ve tried several different boxes in order to take my pastels with me on my bike for plain air painting. All supplies have to fit in my backpack. Up until now, nothing gave me a solid storage case, space for a good selection and a nice light compact case until this NEEF box. I love it!

I am delighted with the pastel box. It enables me to have more room for the rest of my pastels in my large box. i can also group my lightest lights in the NEEF.

It looks sturdy though being lightweight which is what I wanted. I rated it a 4 as I got it for traveling haven’t been able to actually use it yet to see what it’s really like.

Just filled my box and I think it has great possibilities. I am trying to organize my pastels to go to class, in a way that they don't spill out of their places and this seems like a good solution. I have ordered another box just for portrait colors and I use half sticks, either bought that way or whole sticks broken in half, so you can get double the amount of colors in a box. That seems to work well. The pastels are well padded. I have yet to transport them but they seem secure. The downside is the price - a bit steep for a plastic box and foam layers but it does use the given space efficiently so I swallowed hard and bought another! It is easy to lift a layer out to reveal more colors.

As my pastel collection grows I struggle to find a secure yet practical way to store them. With stackable foam flats inside the box, I can easily sort by color or themed sets such as “landscape” or “portrait”

It's a nice storage system but if you have pastels like Unison, you will not be able to use all of the slots. The larger pastels spread the foam and will close up some.

I bought two of these and after I received them, I realized they are better than I had imagined. So I ordered another one! The boxes offer a simple, light-weight solution for sorting and using (and I assume traveling with) your pastels.

This is an excellent product for pastel storage. However, one should be aware that the slots are rather thin. They will accommodate Roche, Sennelier, Schmincke but probably not Unison, Ludwig, Mt Vision and other larger ones.

of all the after market storage boxes available this is the best I have found. All the others, wood and otherwise, are simply drawers that hold multiple pastels that can bang around together. For me this is not the way to store soft pastels such as Sennelier etc. as they will just contaminate one another making constant cleaning necessary not mention breakage.

Really like the boxes. Didn’t realize they would hold so many pastels. Would be great for traveling, & I love the clear box. Now I have extras in 1 easy-to-see place rather than multiple boxes

I plan on.using this box to transport my pastels while working outside. It is very sturdy and comes with foam to keep pastels from rolling around.

I love my soft pastel containers! I’m able to organize by color, size or brand which is very useful. Also the containers are sturdy plastic. My boxes came packaged very securely, there was no way that packaging would’ve been damage, unless an elephant sat on it and even then my boxes would have survived it. I really like that this storage box is lightweight & compact, perfect for my pastels. Great for transporting. Not easy for large or wide pastels, but the foam could be modified to accommodate those.

I would have preferred a box with pull out drawers, and would have paid more for it. this way I have to take out 3 layers separately to see what I have and pick out each pastel stick. Better than nothing to store extras but not effective for everyday use.

So light, easy to access both foam trays and actually holds a lot! Good price and nice small foot print ... great storage device !$!

I use this for a wide selection of greens on the lower level and my 30 Giraults on the top. I've had no problem with 95% of the pastels; however, I just got a Unison that, for some reason is fatter than normal, and it won't fit. The design of the box is wonderful, with the foam being nice and sturdy (with a bottom attached, thank goodness!), so I lift out the top tray and put it in the opened lid, which gives me immediate access to 60 additional pastels when I'm working. My only complaint is the box itself is a bit flimsy. At this price, I would have expected a bit more quality in the plastic and I'm quite sure the latch is going to stop working before long. Other than that one thing, I love the box and would buy more but they're really pricey so I guess I'll just have one for now.

It’s so nice to have something lightweight and inexpensive to carry pastels in. The other options are so heavy and expensive.

This box is great for storage and also carrying along to a workshop, etc. It is very light and the foam trays cushion the pastel firmly. I will purchase again.

Great idea, love the fact that is light and easier to use. My only suggestion is that they make the slots a little wider since some of my pastels take up more room.

I like the concept of this lightweight pastel box, but the slots will only hold narrower pastels, and not thick types. I tried my Mount Visions and the slots will expand, but when I close the lid it presses on the pastels and breaks them. Eventually I would break them, but not new and the box is suppose to protect them. So, disappointed in this. I will stick to my Dakota boxes and use this as a lightweight addition for shards and broken pieces. Is great for harder, square pastels like Nupastel, Holbein etc.
