Great pastel storage! It would be nice to have a side safety latch, after opening to prevent folding, collapse while the foam tops are off. TY!

My husband gave me the Dakota Deluxe Travel box for Christmas. It was beautiful an a perfect size for more, BUT we noticed a crack in the side of the box. We called Dakota and they immediately said that is not acceptable and sent us a new box, which was perfect.

I already had the Deluxe Travel Large Box (I use this as my main palette) so when I decided to buy a small box for traveling it was an easy decision!

This is a sturdy, yet lightweight, well-crafted and padded little travel case that I am enjoying thoroughly! The convenience of having all of my pastels in one case, and being able to see them all at a glance, is well worth the price. I waited months for this case to arrive, as it was on back order. The wait was well worth it!

I purchased both the small and large travel case for use at home. I needed a way to organize my pastels by color and value instead of having to keep original boxes spread out in my small space. The boxes are well made and well padded. When closed the are easy to store. I am very happy to have them. I should have thought of this before.

The construction is solid and quality of this travel case is really good. When your pastels are in the closed case they don’t move around. I was able to get nearly 200 of my half stick pastels in the case. This is so much better than working out of multiple boxes the pastels originally came in. Before purchasing I did struggle trying to decide large case or small case. For me the small case is better for my studio where space is a premium. The size also works better for class work where space is tight on tables with a tabletop easel. It’s well made and I am happy with the purchase.

Perfect space for all the colors I want to use for each outing, where the materials are kept safe from being damaged. Flat surface allows convenient space.

The Dakota deluxe travel box (small) is first in class with rounded off corners for durability, good thick lacquer, and solid hardware for years of transport in my daypack. It helps me meet my requirements for hauling less weight when I travel. Capacity is excellent at +/-300 half sticks. I have lost plein air equipment abroad that was too bulky for daypack. This box will fit in my tote. It's a great price, too: if I want a bigger box later it won't kill my budget. As an artist with fibromyalgia and mobility issues this box promises to move with me to every venue.

It's generally a nice box. Holds a lot of pastels and is fairly light weight. Would have given it a 5 but the leather (ette) handle was a bit frayed and not securely bound.

Very well made travel box, and it's the perfect size for travelling. The pastels will be very secure, with foam top and bottom, and well secured on each side of the box. I'm very happy with it and looking forward to travelling again!

I already have another small and large one . The price Is great when it’s on sale . It’s well made .

Just the right size

The size of this box is great for transporting my pastels to any location, it is small, not heavy and the craftsmanship is great. I have a larger box but it's too heavy to carry around. This one is just perfect.

This is the perfect size for use on my French easel when I am painting out plein air. Well built and secure. Love it!

Love the size and lightness. My only suggestion is they make the clips that hold the lids in place a little more robust. These do not look like they will last very long. Also I wish there was a locking clasp to hold both halves open. My Heilman box has that and I find it very useful. It also prevents the box mistakenly closing and dumping pastels

Beautiful. Fit Almost all my chalks. (My NuPastels were too long to fit). This organized my art studio immensely and I'll be bringing it to my weekly life drawing group.

This case is perfect for my pastels. It is spacious while compact. It is cushoned so my pastels travel well. It is light weight and convenient. It was a very good buy.

This is a wonderful case. It is built very well and yet light weight for travel. It is small enough to fit in my computer bag for airline carry on. The inside is sized perfectly for pastels and padded so nothing moves around. I love it.

Don't know why it took me so long to purchase this case, it is fabulous! My pastels are completely secure from breakage and there is plenty of room. I love it!

This box is not only for travel but also for small studio spaces like my kitchen corner. Perfect for me and very sturdy. Holds more than 180 half sticks with no crowding.

I already own the larger box and have always been satisfied with it. I found I needed another, smaller travel/storage container and this was exactly what I wanted. Good quality with plenty of storage compartments for plein air excursions.

Organizing pastels is a must if you are new to pastels. I have lived in multiple boxes with pastels scattered everywhere since I started a year ago. This box is perfect! Big enough to hold a lot of pastels but light enough to put in a backpack. Great cushioning provided to keep everything safe. I spent an afternoon organizing my box and just love it! This box is a must!

I have used a Dakota Travel Box for a number of years. It is great for travel and to just open in my studio. I liked it so much that I now have 2 of them.

Perfect box for transporting pastels. Very well made. One suggestion would be to make the partitions so that they could be removed if needed, these ones are fixed and are not removable. Would recommend this item. Thanks Dakota art pastels 😊

I received my box in two days, super fast. I like that the box holds all different size pastels, small or large. The box size fits into my backpack and fits on my easel for plein air. It's a good size to travel with. So far it has been a great fit.

The box is well made and attractive. Although it is compact, the space for storing pastels is generous. It will be nice to have most of my pastels in one convenient place.

A great little box for plein air. Keeps my pastels safe. I purchased 2 large and 2 small pastel storage boxes to hold my studio pastels. They all fit perfectly on a folding table 24"x60". It makes it easy to pick and choose pastels when they are laid out in front of me. What is especially nice is that I can close the boxes and store them easily if need be. Also Dakota is an awesome company to work with.

This travel box is sturdy and well-constructed. Design-wise, I would have mounted the carry handle on the same side as the buckle flippers. I'm a novice and bought this as a lightweight box to take to art class. My 120 piece Sennelier Pastels set almost filled it up. If you plan to buy more colors, get a bigger box.

The Dakota Deluxe Small Travel case is perfect to carry my pastels around the world or to a local art meet. It is beautifully made and I can see it will be part of my equipment for many years to come.

I would give it a five but it is heavy.

The box was fine except for the cracks so Dakota's quality control was not at it's best. Conversely, the young woman who helped me when I called was excellent - she quickly sent me a postage paid label and I look forward to receiving a replacement box (with no cracks) very soon!

This box for pastels is a perfect size for me to manage when painting a distance away from my studio. I recently carried it to a five day workshop which involved a fair amount of relocation on a daily basis. During that time my pastels were well organized and easily transported.

At first glance the box is great. It's smaller and lighter than the large Dakota box I have. It actually could be an inch or so larger in both dimensions to get a few more pastels in.

The Dakota Pastel box is compact, well built and light for what it carries. I have the large travel model but it is too heavy and cumbersome for plein air applications. The new smaller box could be slightly larger but not so much to make it unwieldy, perhaps 2" longer to accommodate 30 to 50 or so more half stick pastels.

I absolutely love this pastel case. It's perfect for my needs since I have another case. Although if I had thought about it I probably should have bought the large one and retired my older heavier case.
