    "Lux Roll"
I have bought many rolls of paper, More than I can recall. The Lux is the Tightest, though I read Uart is tighter. I have it opened and am coaxing it to relax. May have to lightly spray the back with water. Using a roll gives me the best control over sizes. The smaller sheets do not lend themselves to the sizes I like to work with and still have the least amount of waste. Luz is close to Wallis-Rip. Wish someone would buy her formula.

    "Exceptional Pastel Paper"
This paper is awesome to work on. It has enough grit to hold all the pastels you need and works with liquids very well. I highly recommend this paper.

I love Dakota Arts! Their service is exceptional and great products, like the Roll of LuxArchival. One of my favorites for large Pastel paintings.

    "Lux Archival"
Love this paper. It holds up to wet underpainting without buckling. Holds many layers of pastel. My “go to” favorite sanded paper now!

    "Great Paper"
LuxArchival Paper is great. It’s 400 Grit somehow feels softer than other paper’s 400. What I really love about it is that it absolutely does not warp when wet. The colors saturate in and once dry additional layers are so so vibrant. This was my third order of LuxArchival paper!

    "Very versatile paper"
I love working on the Lux Archival paper. Sometimes I tone it with a colored ink, other times I do an underpainting. The beauty of it is that it can take any wet medium and it doesn't buckle, and thus doesn't require mounting. There is just enough tooth. I like buying the large sheets and cutting them to size.

    "Awesome pastel paper"
I love working on this paper. It takes layers beautifully and does not curl.

    "LOVE LOVE LOVE LUX!"
This is my favorite substrate to work with. It's an amazing choice for many reasons including: surface takes many layers, accepts wet under paintings, many sizes (would love some square formats though), available in a roll. Most of all, I love that it doesn't curl and doesn't have to be mounted on foam core to have a flat, sanded surface that also goes easily into a frame during plein air events!

    "My new favorite"
Lux Archival has become my new favorite pastel paper. The closest surface I’ve found to the no-longer available Wallace paper. It takes liquid underpaintings very well and holds numerous layers. It doesn’t curl at all - a big plus!

    "Just like Wallis paper!"
This is the best sanded paper I have used. You can have many layers of pastels. It’s strong and doesn’t warp when wet. However, it is very pricey. My Favorite paper!

"Terrific paper for pastels, wet or dry."
I have been devoted to working with Pastelmat and still love it, and I have done a great many successful projects on Canson Mi Tientes Touch, but LuxArchival for me has everything I need. First, it never buckles from water or solvents. Secondly, the texture is fine for both detail and looser work. It seems to take all the layers I can throw at it (although I am sure there is a limit). It only comes in white, but there are so many options to tone it that should not be a deterrent. The only thing I warn is if you are doing 11 x 14, or 16 x 20 and then using conventional mats, you are liable to find you need to cut custom mats.

    "Great paper"
Lux Archival paper is my very favorite surface for pastel. It grabs the pastel beautifully and takes layers. For using wet underpainting, there is no better paper. Soak it and it dries perfectly flat. It is worth the price!

    "I Luv Lux Archival"
The title says it all. Dakota should make large stickers that say," I Luv Lux" and include them in each order. Artists can attach them to their travel boxes or wear them on their clothes for Plein air or surrounded by other artists.

"Always very pleased with Dakota products and website"
I love using LuxArchival and continue to purchase it. The paper accepts both hard and soft pastels beautifully. I can add more layers with the use of fixative if necessary but the paper takes many layers. I have used both wet (alcohol) and dry underpaintings with great results. The paper does not buckle. It's one of my favorites.

    "Luxarchival"
Love this paper! It’s worth the money, best I have found for pastels and any kind of underpainting! I had one painting I didn’t like and I actually put it under a hose to wash off the pastels. Paper was like new with a few underpainting marks left. I repurposed as if new. Dakota is wonderful! They take great care in their deliveries!

    "I’m hooked"
Lux Archival Pastel Paper is now my go-to paper for most of my paintings. The old reliable. I love Uart too...and Pastelmat...Ampersand Bord. All great. Have to say Lux is my daily workshorse because it doesn’t warp and I don’t have to mount it. It’s great!

    "my go to pastel paper!"
This is my 'go to' pastel paper when I want to paint with a wet medium prior to pastel. It does not curl or buckle, takes alchohol and water media excellently. This paper allows many many layers of pigment and I find it a dream when wanting to describe texture. That it is white, I can tone it using Artgraf, acrylic paint, watercolor, walnut ink, etc etc.

    "Must try this amazing product"
I have used many brands of sanded paper and while they are more than adequate Luxarchival is a step above. Accepts wet underpaintings without a wrinkle, has just the right amount of "tooth" to accept several layers that blend well. It is bright white which begs an underpainting and comes in standard sizes so finished paintings are easy to frame.

    "Lux Archival"
I’ve tried just about every board and paper out there for pastel. I’ve gotten quite good at making my own. The Lux Archival had me hooked the first time I tried it. It is perfect for what I do. It has a good, smooth surface with great tooth. I can even use it for portraits. After ordering my first batch of papers I turned around and ordered more because I knew this was my go to product.

    "LuxArchival Pastel Paper"
It's my first time trying this paper - I wanted to see how it compares to Uart. It only comes in white, but with an alcohol underpainting, all colors work! I'm liking it!

    "Color me Impressed"
Hearing pastellists rave about LuxArchival, I had looked into it a couple times, but never purchased .. honestly? The price put me off a bit. Eventually a friend gave me a small sheet and I, again, eventually played with it. Yes, it took me a while because I considered it SO special. Wow .. beautiful surface, flexibility of use, so accepting of DUST! Don't wait! Try it!

In my pastel workshop, Lux Archival was the favorite paper for students to work on, compared to Pastelmat, and Pastel Premier.

    "Love this paper"
My frame of reference is very small--LuxArchival is the only sanded paper I've used, and it suited me from the start. I love how it holds lots of pastel layers and can be wetted, rubbed, and layered some more without warping. The white color allows flexibility to let the color sparkle, or I can tint the surface a custom color.
  • Susan Hester2/3/2022 1:41 PM
    "A favorite paper"
I love LuxArchival because you can use wet underpaintings, it takes lots of layers and it doesn't curl.

    "A work horse paper"
I’m fairly new to pastels but have been taking online classes. This paper was used in one of the assignments. My paper was white and I found that I enjoy using a color background on my pastels so I stained 4 of the sheets with acrylics. It took 2 thin coats of acrylic color and while doing my pastels several alcohol washes and it never buckled or rippled. It also didn’t loose the tooth of the paper. Great paper!
  • Terrilynn Dubreuil12/11/2021 3:14 PM
    "FIRST USE is VUNDABAR!"
The legends of LuxArchival have been floating the halls of pasteldom for a while now .. and I finally acquired some to try. LOVE IT! The surface is exceptional, pliable for various textures and applications, and I can't wait to throw some liquids on it to experiment with textures. Vundabar!

    "Best sanded paper"
For those diehard Kitty Wallis paper fans, luxearchival paper is pretty darn close , if not indistinguishable… in a blind test one would be hard pressed to know one from the other

    "Sanded Paper Treat"
First experience with LuxArchival! Advantages: white color; no curling; accepted a ground medium to build even greater texture in desired areas of composition; didn’t buckle when using a wet underpainting; and allowed many applications of pastel layers. I had happy times creating a masterpiece!

    "Awesome Pastel Paper"
I was a Kitty Wallis pastel paper fan for years and then her product was discontinued or hard to find so I went on the search and LuxArchival is as close or better and I love that it comes in a brilliant white. I do underpaintings and love how this paper holds up to alcohol and watercolor washes. I high recommend this and love that it comes in a roll now.

    "Lux Archival Paper"
This is a wonderful paper for pastel. It will take wet washes with both water and alcohol and does not buckle. I've put it to the test and done two wet washes, toning the paper with acrylic ink and then a wet underpainting before application of soft pastel. This paper is top quality and absolutely wonderful to work on. Yes, it is pricey but it is well worth the cost.

    "Wonderful paper"
I am extremely pleased with this paper. It seems to take infinite layers of pastel without getting muddy. I bought the roll and I find it a bit tricky to work with, but beyond that I am very happy with it. My pastels aren’t devoured quickly and they apply smoothly. Try it - I think you will like it.

    "My New Favorite Pastel Surface!"
I absolutely love this surface for soft pastels. I prefer alcohol wash underpaintings and this surface handle wet underpainting just fine and requires no mounting! It cuts easy and holds plenty of layers of pastel with lots of tooth left over. LuxArchival makes pastel painting so much easier!

Everything about LuxArchival Pastel Paper is wonderful. It’s a pleasure to paint on. Underpainting wet? No problem. No warping. And I’ve found no need to a fix a backing to the paper. Wonderful addition to the other grounds I use. Hi

    "Best paper ever"
I LOVE Lux Archival paper! It lies perfectly flat after wet media and takes many layers of pastel. I use both hard and soft pastel and the Lux surface works so well with both.

"Great surface for artists who enjoy working with solvents"
Got my first pack of 24 x 36 and really enjoying this sanded surface. The grit suits my preferences and I really like the warmer white tone of the sheet. I put the paper through its paces with a variety of solvents and liquids including water, and it has held up well. I really appreciated the heavy weight paper which provides a degree of softness (in the way multiple sheets of paper packing work) when you temporarily mount it to a hard board while working. There are a lot of choices in sanded surfaces, each has its unique quality that provides advantages in the moment one i creating. Lux Archival will certainly be a preferred surface for my work.

Enjoying this paper very much. Does not curl and excellent tooth. Experimented with some extreme under-painting (vodka) and heavy application with very soft brands of pastel. Nice tooth yet smooth effects are beautiful. Wonderful for portraits.

    "Nice paper"
I bought LuxArchival on recommendation from someone who said it was as close to the defunct Wallis paper she's found. It's the only sanded paper I've used, and I've liked how it handles layering and alcohol washes. Have used the 8x10 and 11/14 sizes.

    "LuxArchival Application Review"
The surface works fine. I use a wet underpainting. The paper responded very well without curling or buckling. The only issue is I paint with a heavy hand and the surface filled up quicker than with Uart paper. I am learning to temper my application to match the surface. This should help both the layering and the quality of my painting

    "An Excellent Paper"
I have been experimenting with papers for my pastel paintings for the past few months. Lux Archival is the first paper I have found that truly reacts like Wallis Museum paper did. As a Master Pastellist, I look for a paper that will allow me to use a variety of techniques, and will easily allow a number of layers. This paper does it superbly! My new surface!!
  • Renee2/5/2021 11:21 AM

    "lux archival paper"
I have been looking for this paper all my life. It is perfect for the work I do...Not OK, not good....PERFECT! Pastels are the most vibrant, it does not buckle or warp at all when I use water media. It is heavy, strong, acid free. It is everything it claims to be. It is really expensive and I live on a small fixed income, but I have resolved to use Lux Archival exclusively when I use sanded paper. I recommend you try it, judge it for yourself.

Just tried this new paper for the first time, and I’m in love. It might be my new favorite. The surface accepts many layers of pastels. It doesn’t buckle when I do a wash, and that’s a good thing! I highly recommend. Wish it also came in some other sizes, including square format.

It performs as good if not better than any paper I’ve ever used! I do wet media underpaintings of all kinds and then some15-20 passes of soft pastel and I still find tooth🥰

    "lux archival paper"
I have been searching for the "perfect" paper for my drawing/painting style since 1976. I have come close, but never before have I been able to say, this is perfect.....now I can. This paper is amazing.. I am a mixed media artist.....I like to use a large variety of materials...graphite, pencil, acrylic water color, print techniques, collage ...This paper accepts it all with grace..This is the first paper I have ever used that does not distort at all with a water application. I have never used a sanded paper before, but I just recently started using pastel as my main medium, and the difference between a pastel mark on an excellent quality, 100% rag mixed media paper and the lux archival sanded paper is amazing..

    "The Best!"
This is frankly the best surface I have ever used! It has a good and even texture, equivalent to a 400-grit I believe. It is tough and can take a lot of punishment without weakening the grit. The paper also holds a lot of pastel. Painting is easier with LuxArchival.

This paper reminds me of Wallis paper. You can apply layer after layer after layer. You can scrub it, wet it, abuse it and no buckling , and no need to add fixative to get more tooth.. It is worth ever penny you pay for it. This is my new 1st choice paper....

This paper is lovely to work on. It is not a harsh sanded paper but grabs the pastel very nicely. I also tried a watercolor underpainting and that was very luminous and atmospheric. The paper did not buckle. Highly recommend this paper.

    "New choice"
I haven't had a lot of time to evaluate this paper, but I think it may become a new favorite. It has very good tooth, a brighter base color than UART, and it seems to stay flat even when I use water or alcohol for underpainting washes. I'm ordering some more!

    "LuxArchival Pastel Paper"
It feels like Wallis Pastel paper. I am thrilled working with this surface. I am able to use my own style of painting without frustration. It accepts multiple layers of pastel. I am so glad that you have this product available. The packaging was good and it arrived flat without any curling of the sides.

    "Lux Archival Pastel Paper"
I love this paper! My go to papers are Uart and Pastelmat, but this will definitely be a new favorite! I especially love that it is white, doesn't have to be mounted for wet underpainting and takes multiple layers of pastel.

    "Best in years"
I'm so excited that LuxArchival came along; it's the best new pastel paper product I've seen in years. I'm thrilled with the quality. It takes an underpainting beautifully. It is toothy yet very consistent, taking pastel strokes with no skipping or unevenness, so that there's no need to go back and retouch. I can use as many or as few layers as I want. The paper becomes what it should be, a support for my art.
  • Shelley7/10/2020 9:11 AM
    "I am in love"
I've tried this new pastel paper recently (and a lot!). I can tell you it's like a marriage between Pastelmat and LaCarte (to me). It takes liquid washes/underpaintings super well and that tooth....smooth yet enough grit to move the pastel around. So far, no scoring marks or under marks that reveal themselves like with pastelmat and some pastelbords when in use. Holds a ton of layers as I paint. Have to say, I am in love. Paint mounted or not, it holds itself firm! Many thanks, you got me twitching to add to my stock of this fabulous paper!

    "A Terrific Option"
When I first tried this paper I was not a fan. Fortunately I bought a package so I continued to use it. I'm now a fan and here's why: 1) Unlike other sanded papers it does NOT buckle when doing well underpaintings 2) The bright white color doesn't mute your watercolor underpaintings and pastel colors POP 3) The paper is stiff and is easy to work without a backing 4) Accepts many layers. I'd like to see more options for sizes.

Love using this paper and how the underpainting and pastel react to the surface. A new favorite

    "Very aggressive tooth"
I'm sure this would hold many layers however I couldn't get past the first. Too coarse for me. I prefer Uart or Pastelmat!

    "LuxArchival Paper"
I like the tooth of the paper, weight, archival and the way I was able to apply many layers of pastels. I tried different brands of pastels and they all worked well on the paper. LuxArchival has become my new love in pastel paper.

    "I Love LUXArchival Pastel Paper"
This wonderful surface takes many layers and lies flat. What more could a pastel artist ask?
