I always use handheld, cheap little sharpeners for my pastel pencils. They don't last long and they don't always work all that great. Most of the time I end up using the Exacto knife. So I decided to give this one a shot and I must say, it worked like a charm. Perfect point on my first 3 pencils. Hope the blade will last for a while but I didi get some spare blades.

This is the first pencil sharpener I have found that actually sharpens all pastel pencils. It does a remarkable job. So glad I found it.

I'm always struggling to get a good point on my pastel pencils and am, finally, very pleased. This little sharpener really does a great job! Small, easy to keep with my paints doesn't need a battery and gives a wonderful point! Thank you.

Pastel pencils, due to the delicacy of the leads, need two holes of different sizes. This sharpener has them. (small hole to remove the wood, big hole for finally pointing). I've been using the Prismacolor 2-hole sharpener (which does catch the shvings and this brass one works as well as the Prismacolor. However, I wish this lovely brass one was rigged up with a container to catch the shavings.

This little sharpener is worth is weight in gold. It arrived in time to sharpen my charcoal pencils for a class I was taking and also works beautifully on my pastel pencils. I told the whole drawing class about it so I hope you get more orders.

This is a truly remarkable find and discovery, and a quality product at a great price. I like a good deal. I know I will be able to use this finely crafted and designed metal sharpener for years and years. It is worthy of its own leather pouch, just like a few other beautiful brass devices I carry for travel. It's light-weight and perfect for the artist's studio or plein air pastel painting uses. Replacable blades insure a clean sharp point or edge everytime anywhere.

Of all the sharpeners I've tried this one is the best, not perfect but darned good. The pencils are all odd shaped so it takes a little noodling to get the point sharp. But it is a keeper.

I balked at the price of this pencil sharpener - What??? for a pencil sharpener? I have multiple little ones that were cheap or free! Then I would use them, my pencils would get to the nice almost sharpened point and break. At the tip, and sometimes up the pastel lead. And I'd chew up a lot more pencil trying to get a point. One of my life lessons I have learned as I get older is good tools matter! By buying a sharper, better quality pencil I am actually protecting the pastel lead and preventing breaks up the shaft. This is a really nice pencil sharpener. You can get a good point (which is the point of this post). I will change the blade when it gets dull and in the end save money on pencils because I will not be breaking them when sharpening them. And the cheap ones- adios .

It is a really great device. Sharpens to the quick and does not break the pastel pencil. Love it!

After trying several different types of sharpeners (electric, hand held, xacto knives, etc.) to sharpen my pastel pencils, I have finally found one that works Very Well. I use mostly Bruynzeels. This little sharpener is heavy duty and well built; looks like it will last for years.

The Brass Sharpener's solid brass construction and razor sharp replaceable blades are the best handheld sharpener I have used. I sharpened an entire 64 ct set of Carbothello pastel pencils more than once, without breaking any nibs- before I decided to replace the blade. I have also used this sharpener to sharpen Caran D'Ache pastel pencils, which are much softer and pricier than Carbothello. Replacing the blades was a breeze. A simple eye-glass repair kit screwdriver works great on the set screw. I also love the weighted feel of the brass and the gripped circumference. I highly recommend this Brass Sharpener.

This is, by far, the best hand held sharpener I have tried to date. It has a nice weight to it and seems like it could stand the test of time. I have a growing collection of sharpeners rendered useless by my pastels and the waste this creates has really bothered me. With the brass sharpener, I can change out the blades and resharpen them with a sharpening stone, which makes this an environmentally-friendly choice, too.

It's a fine little shapener but, I am convinced once again there is no pencil sharpener that works on pastel pencils. I whittle the wood away and use a small detail electric sander to sharpen. Wish there was a sharpener that works. The sharpener can be bought with 10 extra blades which means 5 changes as it requires two blades - one for the big hole and one for the smaller hole. I used it successfully on two colors and it broke the point off the next so, I changed blades and tried again. Same disappointing results. I will whittle and sand from now on.

I love this sharpener and hope it holds up. It has sharpened all the brands I have including some that are softer. The key will be replacing the blade as soon as it gets dull but so far I was so pleased (after many tries with other brands and no success). Worth the investment!

It is a sturdy sharpener with two different size holes to accommodate the different sizes of pastel pencils. While I am leaving a product review, I also want to say the customer service is first class and keeps me coming back.

Best pastel and charcoal sharpener I’ve purchased. I have used crank sharpeners with no luck. This simple sharpener worked the best. I get a nice sharp point. Would recommend. I also purchased the extra blades for this sharpener just in case. Haven’t had to replace original blade yet. I’m not disappointed with this simple sharpener for charcoal and pastel.

I love that is works with both sizes of pencils. And, it does a great job.

Best hand-held sharpener I've tried!

Just got my M + R brass sharpener a couple of days ago and I'm very pleased. I have been looking for something to sharpen my pastel pencils and this works very well. I bought the pack of extra blades as well because with pastel pencils its very important that the blade in the sharpener is like new, so I will be changing out the blades every once in a while. Highly recommend this product.
