Great for layering colors in pastel portraits. "Lead" does not break easily when sharpening. Good variety of colors for my purposes.

CarbOthello Pastel Pencils are my favorite Pastel Pencils. When I pick one up there is no doubt what color I am using as the coating clearly matches the pastel. I especially like that they fit in an average sharpener.

I love my Carbothellos. Either in a tin or as a replacement for those I use the most. You won’t be sorry using these pastels.

Of the 3 or 4 brands of pastel pencils I have, Carbothello is my favorite. They offer some unique colors and they are easy to use. They sharpen well also - some others break easily.

Tried them on a mostly finished pastel on 500 gritt sanded paper. Worked very well and used them successfully to blend edges where i did not want a sharp edge. I needed to buy individual colors to add to my stash, so appreciate wide color range.

When I want to do detail pastels, these are the best! Blend nicely for faces and good for drawing detailed hair. They hold up well when sharpening if you have a nice sharp sharpener.

These are the only Pastel pencils I ever buy. Love that they fit in a regular pencil sharpener and the colors are great.

Carbothelo is my go to pencil for animal portraits! The open stock at Dakota pastels is fantastic. These pencils lay down well, sharpen well, and have a great range of colors for all kinds of fur.

I’m am very happy to have these pencils available and to be able to select from a wide range of colors. They hold a point reasonably well, though with sanded paper they will wear quickly. They do not cover like creamy soft sticks but are just what I need for fine lines, some edges and small details. (Would love some more grayed down blues and greens.)

These pencils form a sharp tip for details and do not break too easily. I use an electric sharpener; so far, so good. I appreciate the broad color selection and ability to buy just what I need.

Love these pastel pencils. They are just so soft and go on so smoothly! I also have some Pitts that are very hard for beginning layers, but when I'm working on a portrait, much of my work is done with the Carbothellos!

I paint birds in pastel and these are indispensable for the fine details. Pastel pencils are not as soft as the other soft pastels I use but they do the job.

CarbOthello's are my favorite pastel pencils. Dakota Art Pastels is the best source, arrives on time and packaged wonderfully.

I have tried a few other brands of pastel pencil but, I really like Carbothello best and do not use any other brand. The colors match up nicely with the stick pastel brands that I use, they can be sharpened to a fine point, if needed, or can be used with a softer point. They come in lots of colors and temperatures, and you can order them by the single pencil or as many of the same or different colors as you choose. If you haven't tried them yet, give them a try to see how you like them.

First of all I'm delighted there is a Pastel Store with just about everything one could offer, and it's in the same state as I am. Carbothello Pastel pencils are an item I just started use about a year ago. They hold a point better than some of the more expensive ones.

I've used C-O Pencils for years and prefer them. They have a good color range and consistency. I use them for initial layout, as blending tools (fabulous!!), and detail (not much though). Still looking for the optimum sharpener for pastel pencils...however, if the pigment stick is fractured unseen on the inside no sharpener will work ...sighhhh.

I love these pencils for doing portrait work. I am styling the verdaccio method with Cuong Nguyen and he uses them.
