Each of the individual pastel sticks arrived timely and without damaged. I’ve not had opportunity use use them yet.

DT soft pastels are among my top favorites. Love the colors, the size and the texture. The extra grit helps hold the painting together.

I was disappointed that many in my order looked so very similar. Perhaps that is the challenge of ordering online. Had there not been a wrapping with each color listed, I would have had a hard time discerning one color from another. They seem to be “crusty” in spots, but I will try to get thru that.

Love the pastels, especially the gradation of values. Would like them even better if the color was listed on the individual pastels.

The DT soft pastels were lovely, as expected. I purchased 6 individual blues which came expertly packaged, cradled in foam in cardboard boxes and completely bubble-wrapped in the outer shipping box. love the way you can apply it

I bought a bunch of the fluorescents for pops of color in my paintings and they are absolutely gorgeous. They're SO bright and perfect for my uses. I was caught offguard by the texture of the pastel but have grown to enjoy it!

I love Diane Townsend pastels for their size, mark-making and color quality. I still can't decide if I like these, or Schmincke, best for soft pastels. They are excellent in different ways. Townsends are sturdy and never crumble, at least in my experience (which admittedly is limited). Dakota Pastels packages my orders perfectly and ships them quickly. I love the fact that pastels are the only thing they sell, and they do a good job of representing the colors online.

I work with pastels and black light and these the fluorescent colors from Townsend Soft pastels are amazing! They are super easy to work with when it comes to blending and coverage. Will definitely buy again.

Bought 2 new colors for snow. The pumice allows you to cut through layers of pastel. Diane Townsend pastels are my work horse.

All the pastels I ordered were in perfect shape; no crumbling or breakage.

I ordered a number of Diane Townsend soft pastels and they are so crumbly. They are no longer soft.

I'm a great fan off all the Terrage pastels, so my review may be biased. I love the big ones on pastels papers, because they can give you a base on which to work, or simply because they're very luminous. The soft terrage pastels are excellent too! The colours are subtle and really interesting, they're easy too manipulate. As I'm working on a pumice ground, I can't really speak of their hardness, but they seem to be on the soft side. The only drawback, is that sometimes light colours are almost white (it happened with yellows). But, yes, I would recommand them and I love them. Not forgetting the major role of Dakota Art Pastels , which gives us an open stock at very competitive prices, and a wonderful shipment...Never had a break! Thanks Terrage and Dakota...

I was hoping for a bit darker color, more like TL Eggplant, but this color is quite nice. I like the way the pastel has kind of a gritty feel yes still soft. Great for underpainting! (Especially with Greens over) I will probably be buying more DT pastels very soon.

Beautiful vibrant colors. Sadly to say I’ve had many of my pastels break and crumble. They are extremely fragile. So disappointed for what I’ve paid for them and the loss of pastel.

The Soft Form seem very similar to the Terrages, which I love. They are just not quite as large and perhaps have just a tiny bit less grit in them.

I like their size and the way they feel when I lay them down. Her colors are bright and clear.

I have several sets of Diane Townsend pastels, and I love them all - except for the individual ones (which do happen to come in a set) just purchased. These are their pearlized and iridescent pastels. My disappointment stems from the fact that nearly all sticks have an extremely light pigment, or color, load. I could have purchased one stick, rather than ten, for my purpose.

I love the texture of this pastel. The darkest colors and the very lightest are the best in my box. From a whisper of color to a dense stroke, handling on both plain and sanded paper is exceptional. They encourage quick, spontaneous marks with no drag. The sticks are pigment dense and last a long time for me. They are somewhat fragile because of the low proportion of binder, so I am especially careful with them.

I bought a few sticks to try out. The colors were OK, but not as neutralized as I expected at level C. I find them too creamy for my preferred Pastel Premier sanded paper. I will eventually try them on a smooth paper, and see how that goes.

I have a very small plein air box, so I routinely score and break pastels to fit more into the small box. With this one....don't! It is so fragile it just comes to pieces

I found these pastels to be too dry and grainy. I prefer creamier pastels, such as Blue Earth and Sennelier.

Pastel colors that sing!!

Enjoying the new pastel colors but wished I had ordered a few more.

The pastels came wrapped in cardboard box. Nonetheless, were easy to open. The quality of the pastels were high. Probably a 10 on a 10. I was delighted to receive these.

I really enjoy the fluorescent colors. They are great for adding pops to saturated florals. I managed to shatter the purple one with too-hard pressure. You might want to have a piece of sandpaper handy to rub away the slightly harder outside of the stick to get to the buttery inside for a smooth velvety application.

I have just discovered these metallic pastels. They lend a fabulous tweak to the finished pastel.
