I love this paper. I choose to mount on a surface to prevent warpage when I use guoache underpainting. I start out with my full set of Rembrandts or my earthy set of pan pastels for underpainting, then proceed to my box of softer pastels for the finish.

First time using this. Goes not give much movement to pastel. A mark placed is pretty much staying where you put it. Found a sponge worked to move pastel but fingers don’t do much. Still experimenting

A dependable sanded paper, used this for years while I was learning 'how to' paint with soft pastels. Needing to begin again, found that other papers didn't work as well in spite of some of the curling/up that one needs to keep under control with tape !

UArt papers are one of the best pastel papers.

I’ve always been a huge fan of pastelmat, but recently have experienced flaws in a few sheets, so decided to give this a try and I was pleasantly surprised. I had only used UArt original grit prior to receiving 600 and 800 packs. I love the 800 and have yet to try the 600. The texture is so velvety. My new Blue Earth pastels blend so easily on the 800. I can’t wait to try the 600. .

UArt does a fantastic job of giving you options on how coarse you need your papers and also in sizing options. I purchased these in an attempt to get used to working in larger sizes. My preferred grits are 400 or even 300 and UART delivers. I really like Art Spectrum papers too, they are more like a UART 400-500 Grit paper, but their larger sizes are really quite expensive. UArt is superb - go for it, go big too!

Love to use UART Paper with alcohol washes. This hardy stuff works well with multiple layers of dry pastel on top too.

The paper is a favorite but the product arrived severely curled. The individual sheets at both ends and the pad at the unbound end. A packaging problem

I'm very new to pastel art, so lots of "do overs". I can repurpose this paper fairly easily and retain enough tooth to try again.

Working on this lovely dark paper is exciting. It gives a great new look to your work. Sunsets and sunrises are particularly lovely on it, but all subjects vibrste beautifully painted on the UArt Dark. My favorites are the 400 and 500 grit.

Love this paper but it curls! The curl is getting to me, doesn’t get wavy when wet but just has a natural curl like it’s been rolled up. I tried everything except mounting. Which I plan to do next.

This paper holds a lot of pastel layers, including a block-in layer of Unison, which I finished with alcohol to preserve the tooth of the paper. I probably have 6 or 7 layers on top, especially in the old buildings i painted. I added detail with pastel pencils, sharp and clear even on top of many layers of unison. I love the way the anthracite makes the pastel colors pop.

I decided to work with better tools and these are great! The finished product is getting better - as I do more, too. It takes the pastel sticks and pencils very well. As an added bonus, it sharpens the pencils!

After trying a few types of papers, I like Uart 400 the best. Good tooth and forgiving. Note that I am still a relatively new to pastels.

I was amazed how your shipping department secured my paper in the box to make sure that it didn’t get damaged in transit. UArt paper can take so many liquids when I do my under painting for my pastels. I hope that they will offer their paper in more colors in the near future.

Uart is my favorite pastel paper. It takes a wet or dry underpainting I particularly like an alcohol one. I buy most of my pastel products including some Blue Earth pastels from Dakota. The prices are reasonable and the range of products is wide. I have come to trust the website and expect that it only offers quality products. Shipments arrive on time, well packaged.

I have only recently picked up pastels again after many years of watercolor painting. I quickly moved through my ancient store of unsanded papers, a few nice Wallis sheets, and have now moved this paper to the top of my fav list. I like to wash in my first layer with alcohol and do a fair amount of scrubbing and blending - stands up to it beautifully - then holds plenty of soft pastel layers on top.

The Dark UArt paper doesn't curl like the Sand colored UArt! I really enjoy painting on the dark paper.

Love the packs of UArt .. especially my preferred, the 500 Dark. A wonderful sanded surface, practical, faithful in receiving pastel, wonderful to manipulate with various fluids and other texturing tools. And the 9x12 packs fit right in my plein air backpack. The larger sizes are great for studio use.

Great paper, great grit, and the glassine is a useful, protective addition.

Really nice mid-range grit, not too hard on fingertips and takes pencil over soft pastels.

The preview pack is sanded papers was very helpful especially the dark sheets.

This is my favorite pastel paper so far. Not too gritty but holds a lot of soft pastels. I find it easy to work with.

Have not used this yet, but when I took the wrapper off the ends of the paper have turned up and even though I have it weighted down, it still turns up.

Love this paper, especially when it comes in the pad with glassine sheets in between the paper. If you are looking for a paper to start with, this is it.

Wonderful texture for soft pastels, allowing for several layers!

I have only been using soft pastels for 2 plus years. In my search for the perfect paper for my style, I would say that Uart sanded paper is my favorite. It is firm enough that it doesn't warp like some others. It handles alcohol washes well. I like the 500 grit but have used the 400 grit and 600 grit, as well. I will buy Uart again from Dakota Art.

Nice pastel paper, but not as textured as I had hoped it would be. This will teach me to be lighter in my strokes perhaps. Also I wish it came in 30x40cm size - I didn't measure correctly so ended up with something about 1/3 smaller than I had anticipated, but that's just me.

Uart is one of my favorite papers allowing many layers of color.

I have gravitated to the use of UArt paper for almost all of my pastel paintings. The quality is consistent and the paper hold up well to the use of water, alcohol, turpentine, etc. About 90% of my painting utilize an underpainting technique using one of these elements. 500 grit seems to work best for me and I enjoy the dark series. It is easy to utilize watercolor or acrylic to tone the paper.

I like to have some of this available for certain pprojects. Would be a 5 except for the tendency to curl.

I love using U-art sanded paper for my pastel work.I holds many layers of pastel and also a wet alcohol underpainting. Its a necessary staple for any Pastel Artist.

I've recently been trying different papers to use with pan pastels, to find a grit suitable for fine detail. The UART 600 and 800 grit are now my go to paper for sky escapes and land scales painted with pan pastels. Wonderful smooth texture, reasonable price. Great product.

UArt 400 is my favorite pastel paper. It is so consistently wonderful to work on, and takes an alcohol wash very well for an underpainting.

The 400 grit sanded Uart 12 x18 paper is great for me because I am a Plein-air painter and the format lends itself to landscape painting. 400 grit is not too grainy or too smooth. Just perfect. I like getting both the tan and black for outdoor landscape painting. Also like the packaging. I use it for a support while painting plus it is a good safe protective cover to transport the pastel painting back to the studio

I'm new to pastels and my teacher recommended this paper. It's high quality, holds up to reworking areas and is the perfect thickness.

I love the UArt darks. I have, however, found they curl whether I buy in a pad or as separate sheets. When working on the dark paper, I tape it to a foam core toward, but as soon as I take it off, if curls up. This is not a problem with the regular light papers of Uart.

These papers provide many layers. The 400 hurts the fingers so blend with pipe insulation instead. The 500 is easier on the fingers but curls badly as does the 400. I loke that it takes water or alcohol.

Can take water and other wet media.

Consistent quality I can depend on. Love this texture which is in the mid-range of sanded surfaces. I like to underpaint & find this texture takes it beautifully with plenty of tooth to add layers of pastel.

Even tooth throughout paper, with no underlying streaking patterns with application of pastel. The 600 grit allows more detail and still allows me to apply plenty of pastel layering.

I really like this paper for pastels. You can use alcohol on it and it won't warp. I use the 500 grain because it gives it just enough tooth without being too rough. I like the dark color because it's easier to get your darks in.

I really like the paper but it came curled and I find it hard to tape down. Even after I have finished my painting and taken it off my taped board it still does not lay flat. Is this a problem with the Uart paper I received or is all Uart paper this way? I do not think I will buy it again.

I love this paper for pastels. I have tried different grades of the sand paper,however the U-art 400 is my favorite. It holds the pastel well and does well with a wet wash . I highly recommend U-art sanded paper! Then find the grit that you like.

Working on uart paper provides the ideal surface for my techniques. I mount the paper on ph neutral board and periodically use alcohol to wash in the beginning stages. Uart paper stands up to this and provides a lot of tooth for subsequent layers.

In the distant past I used Kitty Wallis's paper because it was the best available. When it was no longer available I tried every surface I could get my hands on. Some were ok, others were a disaster. Finally I settled on UART as an Ideal solution to the way I work with pastel. My preference are for the 400 ad 500 grit, and I use both the new dark surface as well as the regular. I love Uart paper. I've tried them all, and this one is my favorite. I love the way the sanded surface grabs the pastel. I also like that I can paint to the edge. That works for the way I frame my pastels. I buy it in all sizes.
