Uart is expensive but so worth it. My pastels glide over the surface. I bought the large black sheets to do my eclipse painting. Can’t wait to finish it. As always, very securely boxed.

I like your sanded paper, in fact that is all I use. either the 400 or 500. i teach workshops and give them to my students, they all seem to like it also. I mount them on a poster board so they do not warp, with 1/2 border all side for Taping the paper to my easel. I alway use a ink, pastel or watercolor underpainting. I would be great if you came out with a lighter background so my colors would be more brilliant.

Uart is the perfect paper for my artwork. It holds sufficient layers of pastel.

Received my order of Uart paper in perfect condition. I was able to make folders for the paper out of the cardboard so there was little waste.

I use UArt 400 and like the ability to underpaint with several types of paint such as watercolor, ink, alcohol and pastel. In addition, the grit is good for many applications. Love it.

The U art paper arrived on time and in perfect shape. The staff at Dakota pastels pack items with thoughtful care. My pastels and paper always arrive as if I chose them directly off the shelves myself.

Uart 400 is my favorite pastel paper. Perfect grit, not too rough to get a clean sharp line, ( although not as sharp as Pastelmat) not so smooth that you can’t build up rich juicy color and marks. I like that it holds so many layers and that the marks can be pushed/pulled easily from the start. It also can take alot of abuse - stands up to 91% alcohol without an even a flinch. Only draw back is that it has a natural curl.

This was my first purchase of larger sheets, and it’s definitely the way to go! I love the UArt sanded paper and the larger sheets are more economical, especially when it is on sale!

This surface has a lot of grit and I can really add many layers. Love it.

I can put many layers on without mud. Easy to put underpaints on.

I go through a lot of paintings, so I reuse my UArt 500 again when of wash off the pastels from paintings I do not like, I brush off the pastels with a stiff dry paint ;brush, ;pour alcohol over and wash it again. and blot with a towel, Its good to go for ;another painting.

I’ve been working on Uart Dark for the last year and I love it! I love bold color and on the dark paper bold color really pops! It also makes my mark making stand out more! I keep exploring new ways of working with this dark background and it’s pretty exciting! Dakota is my go to for all my pastel needs. They are wonderful to work with!! Thank you!

Despite some sheets with ridges, this is still my favorite paper.

My first time ordering UArt paper and I inadvertently ordered the incorrect paper grade. The wonderful thing about Dakota is the wide selection of supplies. In this case, totally my fault. Delivery to my Midwest location was prompt via standard shipping. Upon realizing my error in paper grade, I contacted Dakota and was able to return and exchange the paper to the grade I had wanted. Friendly and fast service from the team at Dakota. Thank you! Highly recommend.

I think Uart 400 grit is the best pastel paper. It has the right amount of grit that allows for detail work as well as loose painterly strokes. Holds the pastel, but also allows for blending. Great for many layers and if you tend to have a heavy hand. It will take a lot of abuse, stands up to scraping with a razor blade and even stands up to 91% alcohol washes without dissolving the ground. Only complaint I have is that it tends to curl and has to be taped around all four sides, or mounted.

Ove the ability to work wet media under pastel for greater depth. The neutral warm background works well under most landscapes.

UArt Dark Pastel Paper helps you create paintings with strong contrasts using the full 1-10 value range. Additionally, your palette changes - your medium shades are now lighter; eg. Values 3-5 read as 2-4. Your mid darks also read lighter. White and darkest shades remain in their ranges of 1-2 and 9-10. I love the effect dark paper gives in creating strong value contrasts. I prefer using 800 grit as I can fill the grit more easily with less pastel. I like my skies to be blended with fresh marks over the blended. Using 800 grit creates magnificent skies and clouds. For ‘impressionistic ‘ backgrounds, a light-handed stroke allows bits of the paper to shine through.

Paper was just as desired...sanded with courser texture than 400 grade.

Uart 500 Just enough tooth to hold many layers. Consistent, even texture. Holds up perfectly under an alcohol-wash underpainting. I can’t say enough about how remarkably vibrant the pastel color looks on this paper. It’s now my go-to.

Package was timely, came well wrapped and protected with a minimum of cardboard box waste. No corners of the paper were bent or blistered. Thanks!

I bought the same UArt paper from dickblick, and it came with a little bit of dent on all the papers. I just assumed it‘s hard to handle such a huge size paper. Dakota’s come in a well packaging, tight and nice... and the papers came flawless, no dent, clean and perfect! It‘s quite a huge difference with blick’s packaging. I am pleased!

Any pastelist will find UArt paper to be some of the best on the market due to the number of layers of pastel this paper will hold. There are many different grades from fairly course to very fine. Whether you need paper for a finely detailed piece using UArt 600 or a looser subject matter piece using UArt 400 you will fine the stats that accomplishes your needs. A consistent high quality paper.

I'm delighted. Finally found the right surface for the way I work, UArt 500. Initially, I was concerned about ordering paper online, because I thought it might arrived damaged. Dakota did a great job of packing, and the contents of the box were pristine. I will order again.

I received an order of 18 x 24 UArt paper recently. I checked the box for damage and found that FedEx had been very careful with it, thankfully. When I opened it I was so pleased (and amazed) at how well and thoughtfully my paper had been afixed to the interior so as not to budge during shipping. It was also very well protected by layers of heavy cardboard and a lovely clean plastic bag....all in all, very impressive! I espeially appreciate the pristine conditino of this paper because I am using it to finish a body of work for an upcoming national exhibit to which I am commited, with no time to waste!

UArt has been a favorite pastel paper for a very long time. The wide range of grit selections should satisfy almost anyone, and the addition of a choice of colors is welcome. Once mounted to a firm backing it won’t buckle when a wet wash is used or for that matter the whole sheet can be washed off, and be used for a new painting should the artist want to start completely over; a big plus for beginning pastelists!

After the disappearance of Wallis paper, I tried many other brands, I did not like them. Then I tried Uart, WOW, They are great with a wash, the grit stays consistent. I used Pastel Premier, but when you use a wash on them the texture changes and the pastels do not paint the same as when you do not use a wash.

Uart sanded paper....is developing into a new favorite for my art work. Durable, paintable - stretchable ( like watercolor paper ). I took up watercolor a few years ago and use it very heavily to underpaint for my pastels ( yes, a richard Mckinley influence ). Watercolor behaves more like acrylic on the surface - not flowing and blooming, allowing great control and lots of time to work the color around - love, love, love it!! The paper takes moderate use of stiff paint brushing and even sink washing to remove errors. I soak, stretch and staple the paper prior to painting which keeps it flat. My main complaint is the available sizes in sheets don't divide well into the size pieces I prefer to work with. I also like a little extra paper beyond standard sizes for pastel/paint test areas on the same sheet I am painting on.

This might just be the best way to buy this paper! i can cut it down and use the size I want to use! I would say be sure to buy it on sale, well unless your making great bank! But I am getting bye and I am quite happy with my 400 grit papers!

The UArt Sanded Sheets are my go-to for pastels. I like the wide range of grit and sheet size. The paper was carefull packed and shipped promptly.

The UArt 400 sheets are my favorite. Unmounted UArt paper wants to roll-up, so I think it is best to mount it to self-stick 24" x 36" gator board from Artgrafix / Stover Graphics for a strong, lightweight panel that does not buckle or warp, or use Dakota's ready-made panels. UArt paper hold multiple layer of pastel with no problem. I works great too for washing-in your block-in with water, alcohol, or Turpenoid. The sheets arrived in a plastic sleeve/bag that was securely taped to a corrugated cardboard sheet that was taped inside a flat corrugated box. No damage; perfect condition. The website is user friendly for ordering and the Dakota staff are excellent!
