I love Girault pastels because they are very easy to handle. I can work with them for details and for covering the background. Like hard pastels they feel smooth in my hands yet they go on the surface like soft pastels. They can be used at every stage of a pastel painting.

I love all the colors and I love the way they layer over other pastels. They are a great medium soft pastel.

Girault pastels are a big part of my pallet. They are my workhorse because I love the size and not as soft feel. The blacks are one of the most dense.

Revisiting Girault after many years. Nice and soft on Pastelmat and color # is imprinted on the pastel so have worry about losing the label. The pastel is a little small and a bit pricey.

I've worked with soft pastels for a number of years but had never tried Giraults until a friend recently insisted I actually use a new set of hers... instead of just doing the usual "I'll take a couple of swipes with one piece to see how they are." Well, I promptly fell in love with their softness (in spite of the fact that they look as if they might be hard!) and ease of handling. I bought a lovely set of 50 and then almost immediately had to order another few individuals to round out my supply. Have also turned several fellow pastelists onto them... and your recent excellent sale really helped with all of that!

Girault pastels have become my "go to" pastel. They layer well and are easy to work with. The small size is nice. You can break them and get good edges for lines.

This new group of 51 pastels I ordered really completed my Plein air set. I love Girault pastels because they are the perfect size and soft but not as soft as most of the other soft pastels. The colors are just right.

Girault is my go to pastel ! It’s just a bit on a harder side but for me it is a perfect consistency. Tones of colors and they are gorgeous!

I am new to pastel work, but I really do love Girault! I like the way they handle…the precision and the color saturation. I’ve used these during all stages of a painting or drawing. I will always have some of these on deck.

I was turned on to Girault in a workshop with Liz Haywood-Sullivan. I use them almost exclusively for skies. I love their consistency - not as buttery as a Ludwig but softer than a NuPastel. The range that Dakota offers is wonderful.

Love these, Great array of color and sticks are a nice size to work with, especially details. If I could start over, I would get a full set of Giraults and less of the bigger, soft pastels.

Girault makes a great pastel stick but these new greens ( 223-226) are wonderful. That perfectly soft, slightly gray green you keep searching in your box for.

Girault are wonderful. I love using the harder pastels to do my drawings. I was looking for a brand that still had open stock due to the fact that the NuPastel is no longer going to be available in open stock. This is a little more expensive but oh they paint so nicely.

I only purchase Girault pastels individually rather than in sets. This is because they are very small and very overpriced. However, they are quite wonderful in their texture, not too hard and not too soft. I get a few colors to use as highlights and accents, but I will not invest in a set. Other high quality manufacturers offer much larger pastels for less money, and while those might not have the unique texture of Girault, they are a far better investment.

I read that these are smooth pastels and have found that to be true. The are great for doing portraits. Am saving my money for a large set because I like them so much. Just got 6 sticks for portraits and look forward to using them for landscapes!!!!!

They seem like a hard pastel but when you paint with them, they become soft. Great brand!!!

I actually ordered the wrong color, but so glad I did! This was a happy accident! I really like the Girault brand. Discovered it via the Dakota Sampler a couple years ago.

Excellent portrait colors and one of my favorite brands of soft pastel. The perfect balance between hard and soft.

I'm testing soft pastels on Hannehmule Velour and really liked how the Giraults allowed me to create fine lines of fur when needed. I look forward to adding more to my pastels!

Girault range of color is great. They go on like a harder pastel, so you get the harder edges, but they blend like the soft pastels -- best of both worlds. Careful in blending too much, though -- they bunch and begin to look grainy.

I bought only the black pastel and a few other colors as I heard that Girault had a black superior to all other blacks and had to experience it for myself... it is definitely darker than two other black pastels that I had from other brands, the difference though is more subtle and I’m not sure it makes a tremendous different that I needed to run out and buy this pastel. I am happy I bought it and the few others because Girault does have a very smooth and soft feel compared to Daler Rowney for example.

I bought a few of these to try a month or so ago, and I just had to have more. They are wonderful pastels. Nice in-between in level of softness. Love the shape, as it makes them easy to use for small lines and details. Very nice pastels.

This was my first time ordering Girault pastels. I have heard a lot about them and wanted to give them a try. Wow! They are long and slim, firm on the outside, yet go down so smooth and soft. I will definitely be ordering more!

These are my favorite pastels. They can be applied at any stage of the painting process. The sticks are comfortable to hold and have a nice smooth feel when using them on a surface. Also, they are especially useful when doing detailed work.

These are my fav brand pastel ever. I just wish that they were more affordable. Someday I want to own a while set, I use them as I can afford to do so. But IMHO worth every penny,. Smoothy detailed no fall out great blending and adhesion!

Favorite soft pastels

I love Girault pastels--the colors and the way they handle. Mostly, my paintings have been done with Faber Castille pastel pencils, but I am trying to use these pastels more. The colors I have selected are closely matched to my pencils

Despite the fact that they are ridiculously expensive, I am giving them a 5 anyway. There simply is no other pastel like Girault. Velvety and almost hard at the same time, which makes them incredibly versatile. Amazing selection of darks and wide range of values available.

Ooh La La ! The intensity of pigmentation in Girault pastels is amazing ! Their texture is so unique, simultaneously firm and buttery. Unlike other firm pastels that I have tried, Giraults can be delicately layered in translucent veils of color on top of softer pastels, in areas where texture needs to be slightly subdued, without losing the colors underneath. I highly recommend these pastels for their versatility and superior quality.

Few stores carry wonderful Girault Pastels, and Dakota does so, even individually! They are somewhere between hard & soft, no dust!!!, lovely colors & quite unique. I recommend them highly. You can draw with them. I often need several of the same color, and Dakota is there with great selection! Thank you
